Horseback riding in Lake Mburo National Park

Lake Mburo National Park is Uganda’s smallest savannah national park, it is an angelic destination closest of all Uganda’s national parks to the city center tucked along the Masaka- Kampala highway, the underlining Precambrian rocks support the growth of a variety of vegetative cover which acts as home to animal species that call this home, expect to see much wildlife like elands, buffaloes, Roth child’s giraffes, Zebras, waterbucks, Uganda Kobs and other water mammals  Lake Mburo is mostly covered by water bodies these combine together to form a large wetland area, it is a place free from Large mammals which make it an ideal destination to do horseback riding it is one of the few places of Uganda where doing this activity is free and possible.

Horseback riding is a thrilling experience must do while on a wildlife safari at Lake Mburo National Park, it gives travelers a chance to get closer to animals as they seem to be much more comfortable with the horses rather than safari vehicles. The activity is an initiative of the Mihingo lodge, the lodge has been operating the horses for quite a long time for their in house guests and those staying at other facilities, the maximum weight of their horses is usually 100 kegs, the ride is angelic depending on how many hours you would like to take, expect to meet park species like zebras, buffaloes, Roth child’s giraffes, hippos, olive baboons, warthogs, many species of antelopes to mention a few.

Horseback riding is one the highlights of a visit to the Lake mburo national park, however there are other things to do while in the national park like game drives, these are conducted on open roof safari cars, through the park night drives are done in search of nocturnal species of the park with the lead of a Uganda wildlife game ranger.  guided nature walks in the forest region presents a chance to see many birds, water animals, bicycle riding in the national park is safe as there are no large mammals or cats present in the savannah. Boat cruise along the Lake Mburo is amazing having the chance to see through the vast waterbodies of the park and mammals like hippos.

It is important to park right while considering a wildlife safari experience, in your travel park here a few check list things to have, long sleeved shirts and trousers, insect repellants, caps, and any other items of personal nature, the park can be visited all year round but best during the dry season, the grasses are much shorter and hence easier to view wildlife. The park can bee accessed through the Masaka –Mbarara high way by road for approximately +/- 6 hours’ drive , charter flights can be arranged to the destination from Entebbe or Kajjansi Kampala by domestic flight companies.

Lake Mburo national park is managed by the Uganda wildlife authority and hence a mandatory payment of park entrance fees, to have be allowed to do activities in the national park.
