10 Days best of Uganda big5 and primate safari with shoebill trekking

This 10-day Uganda wildlife and gorilla trekking safari includes chimpanzee tracking in Kibale Forest, a Big Five safari in Queen Elizabeth National Park, and gorilla trekking in Bwindi. You’ll drive through Ishasha, home to tree-climbing lions, finally shoebill tour before concluding your journey at Entebbe Airport.

 

 

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and Transfer to your Hotel

On your arrival at Entebbe International Airport in Uganda, you will be picked by our company representative from Salt Holidays who will transfer you to the hotel. Check inn, freshen up and prepare for dinner and overnight

Day 2: Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park en route Rhino tracking

After breakfast at the hotel, you will have a drive to Murchison Falls National Park with an en-route stopover at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for rhino tracking. You will then proceed to Masindi for a lunch break and then continue to Murchison Falls National Park. You’ll visit the top of the falls for photography. Later, you’ll proceed to your lodge

Day 3: morning game drive and afternoon boat cruise

You’ll go out for early morning game drives in the northern sector of the park with the highest animal concentration. After seeing a variety of wildlife there, you’ll return to your lodge for a break. In the evening, you’ll go for a boat cruise to the bottom of Murchison Falls

Day 4: Transfer to Kibale National Park and Nature Walk (7 hours drive)

You’ll start the day with an early pick-up from your Entebbe Hotel or airport for a transfer to Kibale National Park, located in western Uganda. It takes a 6 to 7-hour drive to get there with en route stopovers for photography at places of interest. You will arrive in time for a lunch break. Later, you can go for a nature walk or relax at your lodge

Day5: chimp tracking and transfer to queen Elizabeth national park

You will have breakfast and be taken for a briefing about chimpanzee tracking, and then proceed to the forest. The forest is the primate capital with many other primates, including monkeys and several birds, most of which you will see while on the hike. On return, you will transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park, arriving in the evening for a game drive.

Day 6: morning game drive and boat cruise along kazing channel

After breakfast, you will go for a game drive in the Kasenyi Sector. You will see various wildlife species here, including buffalo, antelopes, hippos, birds, and many others. You will return to your lodge for a lunch break. Later, you can go for a boat cruise along the Kazinga Channel, where you will see several wildlife, including hippos and crocodiles.

Day 7: transfer to Bwindi impenetrable forest through ishasha sector

You will have this game drive in the Ishasha sector of the park, most famous for the tree-climbing lions, the topi, elephants, and buffalo, among other wildlife species. If lucky, you will spot the lions and other predators in the sector. You will have a lunch break and later proceed to Bwindi, arriving in the evening

Day 8: gorilla tracking in Bwindi impenetrable forest

On this most anticipated day, head to the park for a briefing about the dos and don’ts of the gorilla trek. You will be led to the forest amidst sightings of the different wildlife in the forest. Once you get to the gorillas, you will be allowed in their presence for an hour, taking photos and getting to know more about them. You’ll return and go for a community visit where you will get to know more about the local people’s culture.

Day 9: transfer to Entebbe with enroute at equator line crossing in masaka

You will start your journey back to Entebbe after breakfast, have a stopover at the Equator so you can have a quick picnic lunch, take memorable pictures, and buy souvenirs. After which, you will proceed to Entebbe for evening relaxation

 

Overnight at protea Entebbe

Day 10: Morning Shoebill tracking – Mabamba & airport transfer

 

After an early breakfast, you’ll depart for Mabamba Swamp, Uganda’s most famous birding site and the best place in East Africa to search for the legendary shoebill stork. A short drive brings you to the landing site, where you board a motorized canoe with experienced local bird guides.

Gliding quietly through papyrus channels, you scan the swamp for a wide range of wetland species, including African jacana, papyrus gonolek, blue-breasted bee-eater, malachite kingfisher, saddle-billed stork, and lesser jacana. The main highlight is patiently searching for the shoebill, often seen standing motionless as it hunts lungfish. Encounters are usually unhurried, allowing excellent viewing and photography while maintaining minimal disturbance.

After several rewarding hours in the swamp, you’ll return to Entebbe for lunch and later airport transfer for your departure flight
